Moment of Clarity
This complex cocktail from bar pro Austin Carson brings the fresh flavors of banana, coconut water, and smoked yerba mate tea to a spirituous combination of bourbon, amaro, and absinthe.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 oz Woodford Reserve Double Oaked bourbon
  • 3/4 Banana liqueur
  • 1/2 oz Amaro di Angostura
  • 1/4 oz Angostura bitters
  • 3/4 oz Coconut water
  • 1 dash Absinthe
  • 2 g Smoked yerba mate tea

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients except the tea in a tabletop electric tea kettle.
  2. Bring to a boil and quickly remove.
  3. Place the tea in a tea strainer, and place the strainer over a pouring vessel.
  4. Pour the hot cocktail over the tea, and discard the tea.
  5. Add a large ice cube to an Old Fashioned glass.
  6. Slowly pour the hot mixture over the ice cube.
  7. Express a lemon twist over the cocktail and discard. Serve.
